Another Victory for CREW…

By CREW Staff

The FEC handed CREW another victory.  In response to a CREW complaint, today the FEC released a conciliation agreement finding that the Gregory Brown for Congress committee and its treasurer, Carol Bausinger, violated campaign finance law by failing to file timely and accurate reports.  The commission explained that ordinarily it would "seek a substantially higher civil penalty" for such violations, but because the committee is defunct, has no cash on hand and limited ability to raise funds it would limit the fine to $4,500.

So far this year the FEC has obtained more than $225,000 in civil penalties as the result of complaints filed by CREW.
