New York Times Highlights CREW’s Research into Dietary Supplement Industry’s Influence Operation
A New York Times story by reporter Eric Lipton, out today, highlights CREW’s research into the dietary supplement industry’s influence operation. In February, CREW released a report showing how the dietary supplement industry spent millions of dollars on well-connected lobbyists and made numerous campaign contributions.
The industry’s lobbyists included Sen. Orrin Hatch’s son, Scott Hatch, and former Hatch aides, and Sen. Hatch was by far the biggest recipient of the industry’s campaign contributions. Sen. Hatch played a pivotal role in beating back efforts to strengthen regulation of the dietary supplement industry.
