CREW Asks House Homeland Security Committee to Ensure DHS Loophole is Closed
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a letter to Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) and Ranking Member Peter King (R-NY) urging them to take all steps to ensure that H.R. 1684, the appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), goes forward with section 507 of the bill intact.
Section 507 is aimed at closing the loopholes that allow former DHS officials to profit from their DHS connections once they leave government employment for the private sector. Despite the unanimous support from the Committee on Homeland Security for the bill, CREW has learned that section 507 has been removed and will not be part of the bill once it reaches the House floor.
