CREW Files FOIA Request with the Department of Treasury Over TARP Funds
Today, CREW filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with the Department of the Treasury seeking documents related to former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's decision to award Northern Trust Corp. over $1.5 billion in TARP funds. Northern Trust has come under considerable criticism for its recent sponsorship of a lavish golf tournament in California despite being the recipient of funds under the government's financial bailout program. Northern Trust claims it never requested TARP funds, which were thrust upon it by Mr. Paulson. CREW also requested Treasury guidelines and restrictions governing recipients of federal bailout funds.
