CREW Issues Statement on Rep. Jefferson Sentencing

Washington, D.C. - CREW executive director Melanie Sloan issued the following statement today regarding the sentencing of former Louisiana Representative William Jefferson:
"Rep. Jefferson abused his office and the public trust. The 13-year sentence imposed by the court is fair and hopefully significant enough to deter other members of Congress from committing similar crimes. Members are on notice: while the ethics committees may look the other way, the courts will not."
