CREW Holds News Conference on Rep. Charles Taylor on Tuesday Aug. 15th at 10AM in North Carolina
Asheville, NC – On Tuesday, August 15, 2006 Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a non-partisan ethics watchdog group, will be joined by Tom Coulson of Common Cause and Democracy North Carolina, Grant Millin of Public Fuel Cell, Inc. and Gordon Smith, an Asheville-area citizen journalist and activist at Asheville City Hall at 10:00 am to discuss:
- The House Ethics Complaint against Rep. Charles Taylor drafted by CREW;
- A letter to the Department of Justice Office of Professional Responsibility asking for a probe into the Blue Ridge Savings and Loan investigation, which did not include the questioning of Rep. Taylor;
- A call for strong ethics and lobbying legislation in Congress, similar to the successful reform passed this past session in North Carolina; and
- Recent allegations of Rep. Taylor’s abuse of his position on the Appropriations committee.
