Statement From CREW’s Executive Director on Rep. Mollohan Stepping Down From the Ethics Committee

The fact that there is now an ongoing federal investigation against Rep. Mollohan made it inappropriate for him to remain as the Ranking Member on the House Ethics Committee. CREW had called for Rep. Mollohan to step down as soon as the complaint against him was made known. We commend Rep. Mollohan on doing the right thing by stepping down temporarily pending the outcome of the investigation.

When it comes to ethics, perception matters. Other congressional members with similar ethical improprieties should follow Rep. Mollohan’s example and step aside from their leadership positions as well.
