CREW Urges White House to Require Federal Agencies to Post Correspondence
Today CREW sent a letter to Steven Croley, Special Assistant to the President, following up on President Obama's State of the Union Address in which he asked Congress to be more transparent by posting online meetings members have with lobbyists.
CREW's letter urged the White House to require all federal agencies to post online their correspondence to and from members of Congress. Such a step would allow the public to better understand the relationship between the two branches of government and the forces Congress brings to bear on executive branch actions.
CREW's letter also applauded the voluntary actions some agencies already are taking, such as the Department of Energy's posting online all FOIA requests and agency responses, and urged the White House to expand the requirements of its Open Government Directive to require these and other voluntary postings.
