CREW’s Lawsuit against FEC Dismissed; FEC Unchecked on Administration of Campaign Finance Laws

Yesterday the district court in CREW v. Fed. Election Comm’n (D.D.C.) ruled that CREW lacked standing to maintain its lawsuit against the FEC and dismissed the case.  CREW was challenging the policy and practice of the FEC to withhold timely notice of its decisions, thereby depriving complainants of an ability to effectively pursue review in district court.  The decision means the FEC is virtually unchecked in how it administers, or fails to administer, campaign finance laws.
