26 Oct 2006 // Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has filed an appeal with a federal agency to force the release of communications regarding the destruction of records pertaining to visits by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to a press release.
"Today [CREW] filed an administrative appeal with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) for failing to disclose communications regarding the handling of Secret Service visitor records," the statement said. "CREW is seeking records of communications NARA had with the Secret Service regarding the agency's practice of destroying visitor records to the White House."
CREW is an advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. whose stated mission is to fight government corruption.
The executive director of CREW said, "In its continued efforts to hide the truth, it now appears that the White House has ordered NARA not to comply with CREW’s [Freedom of Information Act request]. CREW will continue to litigate this issue to ensure that the American public gets all the facts."
