26 Jul 2006 // A liberal leaning "watchdog" group wants the Internal Revenue Service to revoke the tax-exempt status of two pro-life, pro-abstinence groups based in Sioux Falls, S.D. Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) said it has filed a complaint against Alpha Center and the National Abstinence Clearinghouse (NAC), both 501(c)(3) organizations led headed by Leslie Unruh. The complaint alleges that both groups have violated federal law by failing to report their lobbying activities. "NAC and Alpha Center have a clear pattern of flagrantly flouting the laws that govern charitable organizations," said Melanie Sloan, executive director of CREW. "The IRS should immediately investigate these organizations and revoke their tax- exempt status. Considering their egregious conduct, neither group is entitled to the tax benefits they presently enjoy." CREW points to newspaper saying that Unruh has pressed lawmakers to fund abstinence education programs and pro-life legislation
