I hate Bush as much as the next guy but this picture looks Photo shopped. Abramoff is clearly in a different picture and Bush was put in afterward. They are of different heights and Abramoff is further away--not just smaller.

The following is taken from a news report on wnbc in New York City:
"The group said the White House wanted to keep the snapshot under wraps. A White House spokesman said it has previously acknowledged that Bush and Abramoff met.
Abramoff helped raise more than $100,000 for the president's re-election campaign. He's now serving time in prison for a fraudulent Florida casino deal and is cooperating with the FBI in a bribery probe involving members of Congress and the Bush administration."

So, for those who still think that Bush did not meet Abramoff, why is a White House Spokesperson acknowledging that they did? And why were they trying so hard to keep this photo a secret?

The whole thing stinks to high heaven!! I still don't understand why impeachment proceedings started against Clinton and yet Bush has many more reasons to be impeached.

Enough said. How much more proof is required before impeachment proceedings will begin? He's a criminal, and has many criminals on his staff!

Jack Abramoff looks awfully thin and trim. He sure gained a lot of weight since the photo was taken. It must be all that "pork" and good times with da Prez that did it. Was there really ever any question that the administration was lying through thier teeth and treating us "mythical little people" like the poor, ignorant slobs they think we are? In this age of home computers, it is becoming increasingly difficult for these snakeoil salepeople to hide the truth. It's out there, big as light!

people pay money to attend and expect a picture with the campaigner! Wow.
Shocker.
Hundreds of people had their photos taken with Bush at this fundraiser. It doesn't mean that the President knows each of them, nor does it imply any wrongdoing.
How do we know this is authentic anyway? Oh... It's on a blog, so it must be factual....
How do we know that is Jack Abramoff? It sure doesn't look like him very much....
How do we know this photo wasn't doctored?
And one more question....
How does this prove that a relationship exists?
Has it occurred to you that Abramoff might have simply been in attendance on a personal level?

If you think ANY connection to the President exists because someone is in a photo with him, then you don't know ANYTHING about how Washington and the White House works. The President poses with thousands of individuals every year for these photo's. He meets them, shakes their hands and the entire exchange, photo and all, MAY take 5-10 seconds. Some top donors have had their photo taken with a president multiple times and have given lots of $$$ to attend a reception where such a photo is possible and I would wager that whoever the President is/was, he would not be able to call them by name.

Abramoff was a great lobbyist - he got inside the White House because of his relationship with White House staff. No lobbyist EVER has to meet with the President to get what they want. It's much better and more effective to get to the right staff and push your agenda. Unfortunately, while he was great at lobbying, he was terrible at ethics and he got burned, as he should.

But don't for a minute think this photo proves anything except that for 5 seconds one day, Abramoff stepped out of his place in line for a photo moment. Plus, if you'll notice how young he is in the photo, you'll recognize that this is certainly poor evidence for any recent relationship.

So what? The jackass was at a photo-op that was attended by the president. Big deal. All it proves is that they were in the same place at the same time, and posed for a photo.

Want to see a photo of Al Gore with Fred Phelps of Webstborough Baptist Church fame? It's out there. My "Save the planet" and Mr. "God Hates Fags" all chummy like.

Does it prove anything? Aside form Gore having terrible taste in who he lets run his fund raisers, no, it doesn't.

Grow up and find some real evidence that the two of them had any kind of relationship at all.

Tony Snow said that Jack Abramoff was "a lousy lobbyist" because he lobbied to get government jobs for 20 persons and only one was hired. This was a mathematical argument made to defend the integrity of the Bush administration. Snow thinks he is too clever and that Americans are stupid.

Yet records held by the White House until they were released by court order showed that Jack A. had 345 meetings at the White House in just three years, or a meeting every three days.

Now if we consider that there are 35,000 registered lobbyists in Washington, how many of them have ever had the opportunty to hold a meeting in the White House? Not many. Of those that have been in the White House, how many of them have been able to meet there 20 times? How bout 50 times, or 100? Much less.

The mathematical probabilities indicate that out of those 35,000 lobbyists only a handful, perhaps less than 20 or 10 of them, have been able to meet at the White House as often as Jack A did.

Tony Snow's appeal to statistics to discredit Jack A serves better to prove that the convicted felon was indeed a superb lobbyist, that the Bush administration is for sale and that his mathematical reasoning is as lousy as it can gets.

Since all this happened under Bush's watch, this is truly consequential. So what is your take?

This was at a fundraiser, not an secret meeting in the White House. You can bet Bush had his picture taken with a few hundred people on just that day.

If you've never seen one of these things in action it goes something like this.

1. You pay $1000 a plate. (after a background check)

2. Hear a quick speech or two.

3. The President arrives has a quick nibble by the biggest suck up/contributor.

4. The President stands up and gives a Rah Rah Rah! Go Getum! speech and the whole rooms gives him a standing ovation.

5. Then everybody lines up for a very brief introduction and a quick snapshot in a grown up version of getting your picture taken with Santy Claus.

6. The President leaves before anyone else is even allowed to exit the room and he is off to rest up before the next fundraiser.

Repeat this process until you have a couple hundred million dollars and then run for President again.

All this photo proves is that Abramoff was into meeting politicians just like any other brown nosing beltway PAC whore.

Please educate yourself on the correct use of the term "to beg the question".

Whether the picture is real or fake is not really relevant. I am a veteran of Desert Storm and a lifelong Republican that voted against my party in the last presidential election for the first time ever. We all tend to like to place a lot of blame on those that were elected. We forget however, they were elected legitimately or not by the citizens of this country. If you want to know what is really wrong with the way America is being run, take a good close look at the comments already posted in response to this picture. Many people simply made a single comment about the picture, but several others took it to a whole new level of perversion by using this forum to openly bash each other and their respective beliefs...

Since when is liberal or conservative a bad word to be flung like some bit of cheap profanity. Additionally along those lines, whatever happened to those of us that were considered liberal republicans and conservative democrats? The far right and the far left special interest groups have hijacked our political system to a point where the common ground, like the middle class, really doesn't exist anymore. This coupled with the fact that we spend more time than ever psycho-analyzing every little thing we hear or see in the news to the nth degree has detracted us from what is really important in life.

Instead of bashing each other's political stances, here are some suggestions. Take your kids to the park, take your significant other out to a movie or dinner, visit some friends or read a book. Basically spend some quality time with the people that are important in your lives rather than focusing so much energy and so much negativity on things you have no control to change at the time. Just because you disagree with a person's opinions doesn't mean they're stupid or idiotic or moronic... at least that was one of the things I learned in elementary school.

Wow, I don't think I have ever seen a more pathetic attempt at splicing images together. Aside from the extreme low quality of the image, unless they use disposeable cameras at the White House, and the lack of continuity in the shadows silhouetting their bodies, red flags should go up around all you idiots believing this is real when you take another second and look at the bottom eighth inch of the photo. Their torsos are floating above the bottom of the photo and the flags behind them are clearly visible below Bush's left hand and Jack's right hand. A President takes thousands upon thousands of photos. The White House would not even have this photograph if it was a fundraiser. The White House photographer does not take those, rather the photographer hired by the organization does.

I suppose every journalist the President has a similar picture with is someone he knows? Of course not.

Politicians shake hands with and pose for pictures with hundreds if not THOUSANDS of people every year at fundraisers. I have a friend who has a picture of him and his sister meeting Bill Clinton at some fund raiser. But if he turned out to be a serial killer or something, I'm sure that Clinton wouldn't remember having met him.

While I have no doubt Abramoff is a slease lobbyist, the photo proves only that he had his photo taken with Bush. It proves nothing else, and as much as I dislike Bush, I believe he really doesn't remember much of these photo-op events.
I've been to these kind of events before and I know the ritual well.
The president (or whatever celebrity) stands on stage and people form up in line to get their picture taken with Bush.
A quick handshake, smile, (and hope you don't close your eyes) and you're done.
The real sleaze is that if you want a copy of the photo it will cost you.
You pay a contribution to the presidents campaign fund and get to hang the photo in your office where you can brag that you met the president.
The photo makes a good talking point, but it breaks no law and proves nothing illegal. The real smoking guns are the cancelled checks and email memos.
