White House spokesperson: Our political work was not illegal, nor unethical
The White House political operation is under investigation by the Office of Special Counsel for its political activity, but the White House spokesperson claims there is nothing to investigate:
Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino said no laws were broken and that the White House counsel's office signed off on the effort.
"It's not unlawful and it wasn't unusual for informational briefings to be given," Perino said. "There is no prohibition under the Hatch Act of allowing political appointees to talk to other political appointees about the political landscape in which they are trying to advance the president's agenda."
She added: "These briefings were not inappropriate, they were not unlawful, they were not unethical."
We shall see.
Poor Dana
One cannot help sympathizing with Dana Perino, who does not seem like such a bad type, having to cover for the likes of gb&crowd and to lie convincingly to those media pros. It's a crummy job, and the fact that she is none too slick is a point in her favor.
There are no doubt a good number of decent types who have been duped and suckered by gb&crowd, and some of these will wind up behind bars because they believed in the star of the fair-haired son. They are more like lemmings than crooks, but they will nonetheless be convicted and condemned. And they will be hauled off by the truckload.
And gb&crowd.....what will be his fate? Will he be pardoned?
phrasemongering will not avail
There are landscapes and there are politics, but there is no such a thing as a political landscape, at least not in the Hatch Act, which speaks pretty clearly and definitely about certain kinds of politicking.
But let's not argue, let's hear what the Attorney General has to say on the matter. Where's Fredo?

I cannot not find the section where the website says political briefings to restricted employees is acceptable, but I CAN find the section on ethics where the Administration says it will be the most ethical ever AND that it will abide to both the letter AND THE SPIRIT of the law.
Where is he?
Fine sounding words. I wonder who wrote them.

Karl Rove is used up
He has served his purpose and now has become an embarrassment. There is no more need for electioneering types, anyway, not for the White House, where the present occupant is now confronted with an ugly fact of life: crooks go to prison.
