28 Mar 2007 // Today Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of Education for records of all contacts with the White House and educational publishers relating to the $6 billion Reading First program.
Recent congressional hearings and multiple reports by the Department’s Inspector General have exposed how the administration of Reading First was rife with mismanagement and conflicts of interest. CREW’s FOIA seeks documents that will shed further light on these abuses and their connections to the White House and the corporations that profited from the program.
