Three Alaska officials indicted for bribery
Although we focus primarily on Washington, DC, corruption of public officials isn't limited to the federal government. Three elected officials in Alaska were charged with bribery last week:
One current Alaska lawmaker and two former ones were indicted on Friday on charges that they had accepted bribes, including cash and a work offer in Barbados for one, to support measures favorable to an oil services company.
All were arrested here.
State Representative Vic Kohring, Republican of Wasilla, was charged with extortion, attempted extortion, bribery and conspiracy, according to a federal grand jury indictment unsealed on Friday.
As we reported last September, there has been another on-going investigation in Alaska involving the State Senate President, Ben Stevens (son of Alaska's U.S. Senator Ted Stevens).

For an amusing reference in this regard, see the incident when Merck Pharmaceuticals slipped a wad of cash into the palm of Governor Rick Perry earlier this year, whereupon Perry issued a pronunciamento that all schoolgirls of age 10 were to be innoculated against a sexually transmitted virus blamed for cervical cancer, and guess who had the patent on the innoculation serum? Right, Merck Pharmaceuticals.
"Cervix Rick" as he is now known in some quarters, is George Bush's hand-picked successor as Governor.
