Former aide to Abramoff and Rove will plead "The Fifth" over White House dealings with Abramoff
From our friends at TPM Muckraker, we learn that Susan Ralston will invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination when she testifies before a House committee. You may recall that Ms. Ralston had the unique role of serving as an assistant to lobbyist/felon Jack Abramoff and White House political guru Karl Rove:
Karl Rove’s former secretary, Susan Ralston, will plead the Fifth if she is forced to testify about White House dealings with Jack Abramoff, according to a memo released by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform today.

That persons in public positions should escape having to render account of their offices.
The whole problem today stems from the fact that there is no accountability in government. This is what engenders the corruption, crimes, conspiracies against our rights, etc.
There should be a constitutional amendment that puts accountability for public office as the first consideration.
Or the judiciary should enunciate public accountability as a principle so basic to our system that it need not be enumerated as a public right, but can be assumed.
One thing for sure: this nation deserves better than what it is getting and what it will get in this business of corrupt and criminal officials.
FOIA & High Crimes & Misdemeanors
The lack of compliance by the administration with the FOIA is within the purview of the President, one George Bush, is it not?
Egregious lapse or deliberate policy to subvert the Law?
It is hard to believe that it is an accident that the FOIA is ignored .... and CREW is finally on track to make a useful issue of this by their FOIA to seven agencies.
Need to do: involve the WH in some definite manner in this issue. I would put that purposefully subverting the law by tenditious legal renderings is still subverting the law. And if the ultimate aim of denying these FOIA requests is the obstruction of Justice, we have a slam dunk.
The character of the man
A man of rather ordinary personal skills and abilities, and quite limited practical experience who simply utilized extraordinary advantages to become president. His greatest accomplihment in life was to have a rich and powerful daddy with a rich and powerful political machine.
It has never entered into his thinking that his methods could backfire on him, and so he is now in the most exposed and perilous position, and likewise scores of others he has brought along, these mostly not any too awfully clever but very trusting and obedient. Your Monica Goodlings. And now he will be hit from all sides at once- Abramoff, US Attorneys, Dept. of Education, GSA, etc. plus lots more yet to be turned up. It's going to be a shambles.
