CREW SENDS FOIA REQUEST TO DEPT. OF JUSTICE SEEKING COMMUNICATIONS WITH MARK MCKINNON AND HIS COLLEAGUES

23 May 2007 // Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Department of Justice seeking emails between the Offices of the Attorney General, Deputy Attorney General, Associate Attorney General and Mark McKinnon, Maverick Media, Inc. and Public Strategies, Inc. concerning the firing of U.S. Attorneys. CREW sent its FOIA request after recently released DOJ emails showed that the White House had hired Republican strategist Mark McKinnon to handle damage control in the aftermath of the U.S. Attorney scandal. CREW also sought expedition from DOJ's Office of Public Affairs based on the exceptional and widespread media interest in this matter and the questions that have been raised about the differing public explanations DOJ officials have offered for the firings.
