Bush on Libby: Full pardon still possible
George Bush was asked directly about the Scooter Libby case today. His response left open the possibility that Libby would receive a full pardon according to Reuters:
President George W. Bush on Tuesday refused to rule out a pardon for former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby, a day after sparing him from prison in a case that helped seal his Iraq legacy and gave ammunition to Democrats.
Bush, who angered Democrats but reassured conservatives by saving Libby from serving a 2-1/2 year prison sentence, told reporters who asked about an eventual full pardon for Libby: "As to the future I rule nothing in and nothing out."

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Fidelity National Information Services, a financial processing company, said Tuesday a worker at one of its subsidiaries stole 2.3 million consumer records containing credit card, bank account and other personal information.
The employee sold the information to an unidentified data broker. The broker then sold it to several direct marketing companies, but the data was not used in identity theft or other fraudulent financial activity, officials from Fidelity subsidiary Certegy Check Services Inc. said in a conference call.
About 2.2 million records stolen from Certegy contained bank account information and 99,000 contained credit card information, company officials said.

“As a result of this apparent theft, the consumers affected received marketing solicitations from the companies that bought the data,” said Renz Nichols, president of St. Petersburg-based Certegy.
“We believe that is the extent of any damage to the public,” he said.
The company has found no fraudulent use of the information. An investigation is continuing by the U.S. Secret Service and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Those agencies didn’t return phone messages seeking comment.
Certegy has asked a court in St. Petersburg to get back all the information from the employee and the marketing companies as well as to stop its use.
Motives Impeached
If Bush's main consideration was to stymie future investigations (obstruct justice), as the consequences of this act seem likely to do, then he has made himself liable to criminal prosecution, and impeachment as well.
Of course, this all depends on uncovering Bush's motives. But this could happen.
Libby Pardon Could Re-Open Admission to Bar
[ 586 F. Supp. 375 ]
Notice this is not an absolute rule, with wiggle room for re-admittance: [Citations ommitted]:
'''Although obtaining a pardon may not, in all cases, lead automatically to admission to the bar . . it will be strong evidence to rebut the presumption that a convicted federal felon is not of good private and professional character. In addition, the information gained in the process of investigation of the pardon application will aid this Court in its independent assessment of the character of applicants to its bar under these circumstances to assure that only a "proper deference" is given to the state court's determination of fitness.'''
The current "clemency" and "commuation" hinges on the false asertion that Libby will be denied the ability to prctice law. But once pardoned, Libby -- per the above -- might be able to re-apply to the Bar. Whether Libby's request to be readmitted to the bar is or is not denied is a separate issue.
House Could Pre-Empt Libby Pardon With Impeachment
The House could prevent a pardon by impeaching Libby.
"he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment"
Yes, former US government officials have been impeached after they have left office. This is not unprecedented. whether they are convicted by the Senate is a separate issue; pardons have no effect once impeachment starts.
The Court and Jury have provided all the evidence warranting an imediate impeachment. There is no review required. The House Judiciary could take the Court verfict and vote to affirm the conviction with an impeachment.
Let the Senate GOP show they are not willing to affirm the Grand Jury.

In cases of IMPEACHMENT, PARDONS ARE NULLIFIED.

If the Judiciary as well as Republicans ACT BY THE LAW AND ENFORCE IT, THERE IS NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED.
PARDONS ARE NULLIFIED FULLY AND COMPLETELY, LEAVING NOTHING BUT THE COURTS LEFT TO DECIDE AND IMPOSE JUDGMENT.
