Bush staffer to Congress: Back off on oversight. Our advice: Read "Crossing the Line"
Yesterday, Bush spokesman Scott Stanzel criticized the oversight being imposed on the Bush administration by the Democratic-led Congress:
Bush spokesman Scott Stanzel told reporters during the daily briefing that the White House has been subject to an average of about six oversight hearings a day since Democrats took control of Congress. In that time, he added, the administration has turned over 200,000 pages of documents.
Said Stanzel: “I would raise those issues because it raises the question, what does Congress want to do? Do they want to pass legislation for the American people or would they rather investigate and have politics be the course of the day?
The reality is that for the past six years, there was no oversight of Congress. That's led to an out-of-control administration as CREW documented earlier this week in our report, Crossing the Line. As Melanie Sloan said when we issued the report, “Vice President Cheney and Bush administration officials are working hard to reconfigure the executive branch to conform with their preference for absolute power rather than with clearly established constitutional boundaries." That kind of abuse warrants more oversight, not less.
Answer for Stanzel
Congress wants more oversight, and that includes most Republicans, as shown by committee votes for subpoenas, etc. The whole nation wants more oversight, as shown by response to polling. What do you want, Mr. Stanzel?
Stanzel wants
Stanzel wants to cover for bushco. Infamy does not bother Stanzel.

Oversight To Support Competent Decision Making
Oversight must precede prosecutions and a discussion of solutions. Stanzel offers us a false choice. The question is for the President and his staff to answer: What do they want to do: Defend or destroy this Constitution?
If the EOP Staff is not happy with many hearings, one solution is to consolidate the hearings into a single impeachment hearing. Stanzel once spoke highly of the Vice President calling him a man of integrity: It is for OVP and EOP staff to explain why Cheney, who wanted investigations in re Iran-Contra, finds the weather unfavorable for similar oversight.
This oversight is not one of Congress, but the mandate of We the People. The Constitution defines the authorized oversight powers We the People delegated to Congress. Self-oversight does not work. Stanzel and others can either cooperate or consolidate. The oversight shall continue, expand, and target EOP Staff and current-formerly assigned staff counsel.
On The Table
We the People are the source of all power. Without warning, We the People may revoke this Constitution and implement a new one which redefines power, and prevents this abuse from happening again. Any. Time. We. Choose.
The way forward depends on facts, oversight, and a careful analysis. Solutions depend on robust oversight. What more would a decider want than fully informed decision making? We the People expect nothing less and shall accept nothing less. EOP Staff shall comply, or face legal consequences. Cooperate, or wish you had.
