Senator Ensign blocking Campaign Disclosure bill with effort to intimidate watchdog groups, like CREW
The Senate GOP caucus has become a hotbed for ethical scandals this year. In response, CREW has requested ethics investigations of Senators Ted Stevens, David Vitter and Larry Craig. In an effort to thwart ethics investigations, Senator John Ensign has stopped progress on a campaign disclosure bill by demanding an amendment requiring disclosure from ethics watchdog groups, like CREW.
So instead of cleaning up the GOP caucus, Senate leaders are obsessing over CREW. TPMmuckraker has the details:
Watchdogs, at least, think the issue is clear. Ensign's (or McConnell's, if you prefer) amendment is obviously targeted at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which has filed a number of ethics complaints of late against Republican senators, such as Sens. David Vitter (R-LA), Ted Stevens (R-AK), and Larry Craig (R-WY). "I think Sen. Ensign should look at the ethics issues of members of his caucus like Vitter and Stevens and spend less time worrying about how CREW is funded," the group's spokeswoman Naomi Seligman Steiner told me. "But we're glad we're on his radar. Clearly he's concerned about us. Maybe we're making a difference. That seems OK to me."
Chris Farrell of Judicial Watch (which has filed complaints against Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) and others) had a similar take. "That sounds to me like an attempt to suppress scrutiny.... It's a sad reversal of the kind of scrutiny there ought to be of politicians who use their office to broker favorable deals for themselves."

CREW totally blows away Judicial Watch!
I am a registered Republican and at CREW's website every day. Judicial Watch...I go to their website no more often than once every six months. My opinion is that CREW is much more professional and really sticks to the issues at hand, focusing on the actions of individuals, not the party they're affiliated with. I've found Judicial Watch to be very partisan and often issues it takes focus-on are backed-up with little substance so that Judicial Watch activities become not much more than witch hunts.
As I've watched corrupt Republicans insult CREW in the news referring to it as a partisan liberal watchdog organization I have found humor in this. These politicians lack a defense so lower themselves to throwing mud by reverting to simple name calling.
I have joked with family and friends that since we all support CREW and its endeavors, that according to many Republicans we would now be considered liberals. According to people such as Doolittle, DeLay, Weldon, Stevens, Young, Cunningham, Hunter, Ensign, McConnell, Taylor, Feeney, Murkowski, Tancredo, King (Pete), etc. to be Republican is to be a crook, and if a person abides by the law, they're considered liberals. The aforementioned brood every time they take a stab at CREW guarantee the Republican brand name won't be repaired!
Today, I could sell my company to the Kremlin and make extraordinary problems go away. The problems are directly related to my refusal to let the Kremlin control my company as owner or majority shareholder. We would make a lot of money if we sold to the Kremlin--a non-democracy, but also would be selling our souls to the devil! This saga has gone on since 12/1/01! No one has heard of us and no one has heard of our invention despite we were forerunner based on merit for every single federal identification credentialing program since 2002. All of the aforementioned soldout the US to President Putin and conspired to take down my company, over and over again made possible through illicit intelligence agency contracts. We had several foreign operations and the scum above had no respect for the sovereignty of our allies when intelligence contracts were awarded to take down for President Putin's benefit my company's operations serving the overseas "private sector."
Not everything in life is about money. These Republican brats are facing potential treason charges and still are in denial of their actions! For me it is very important I make my money morally, so since the aforementioned take-in campaign contributions in exchange for favors...immorally and allow their lives to be led by greed, my company has spent the latter part of 5 3/4 years churning our wheels. CREW was responsible for a majority of the first complaints of the aforementioned to the FBI...before we even learned we needed to file our own complaints with the FBI.
The CEO and I are very grateful CREW is doing such an excellent job! I should explain that in 11/04 I concluded with 100 % certainty that the former Republican leadership had been bought-off as the Kremlin's representative had told us. It sounded as though I was making an insane accusation when I told the CEO he was going to Germany on a one-way ticket to accept a 15 months old financing package and breaking the US DHS' Buy American laws, despite I listed approximately three dozen reasons why I knew I was right. CREW's work has been so thorough and found so many instances of failings in ethics of so many, that my 11/04 no longer could be viewed as absurd by anyone!
Corruption as a whole has been rampant in Congress for at least three decades. Of the many watchdog groups, CREW has been the one to date whose actions really have brought about visible change! Inherently people are resistant to change and Congress is no exception. It is very nice to know that a bunch of congressional criminals are feeling CREW's wrath! It is very nice to know the changes they want to be made with regard to ethics legislation is because CREW is feared. It is about time some watchdog group made these members of congress discover they're not above US laws!
