"Rep. John Doolittle, R-Roseville, has crawled into the freezer with Jefferson"

Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) is facing a federal criminal investigation. His home was raided by the FBI. He was named one of the most corrupt members of Congress by CREW in Beyond DeLay. But, he has a plan. He's using the "Jefferson defense":

Rep. William Jefferson was the Democratic congressman from Louisiana caught with $90,000 in the freezer of his Washington home. He goes to trial in February on bribery charges. Jefferson has tried to claim that an FBI search of his congressional office in 2006, done with a valid search warrant from a court, was an unconstitutional violation of the separation of powers.

Now, Rep. John Doolittle, R-Roseville, has crawled into the freezer with Jefferson.

On Dec. 19 Doolittle said he is challenging the constitutionality of subpoenas, issued by a federal grand jury, which seek congressional office records related to his relationship with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

It's purely a strategy of delay. "My attorney tells me that this issue alone – the constitutional issue presented by those subpoenas … is going to take one to two years to resolve," Doolittle said.

Such self-serving twaddle has little to do with constitutional principle, whether spouted by Doolittle or Jefferson. Certainly, the Constitution protects members of Congress from questioning or arrest regarding legitimate legislative activities – to guarantee the independence of the legislative branch. But members of Congress are not above criminal law; their offices have no immunity to conceal crime.

More on Doolittle may arise during Wilkes-Foggo trial

Doolittle very likely is finished and gone in disgrace when the Wilkes-Foggo trial begins! Wilkes already began dragging Lewis through the mud during his Cunningham trial with a defense that this bribing via campaign contributions is how biz is done in D.C. Not only were Wilkes and Foggo linked to Cunningham, but they were linked to many others, Doolittle included! There was a second grand jury on the east coast convening over Wilkes and Foggo and much of the other corruption probes--many linked to Wilkes now are being handled by US DOJ Public Integrity Section in D.C.

In the Wilkes-Foggo indictments there is mention of straw men, shell companies and 3 times a private security installer. I do know about much of that since it involved the seizing control of a company whose US federal launch I head. Cunningham, Wilkes and Foggo were gone from government service when one of the illicit contracts awarded to Wilkes involving a shell company and 4 straw men that failed, was renewed. The renewal worked and one of my employer's overseas operations failed. I have a short list of likely suspects for which Lewis and Doolittle are tied for # 1 as most likely culprits behind the renewal of the illicit contract via illicit earmarks.

It is very possible that the renewal will arise in testimony at the Wilkes-Foggo trial and serve as an introduction to Lewis and/or Doolittle's own indictments. For certain, when the Wilkes-Foggo trial gets underway, Doolittle is going to have to contend with what comes from my own mouth! Whereas most of Congress' scumbag traitors such as DeLay, Weldon, Taylor, Hastert, etc. are gone from government service, those depending on a congressional paycheck whose location can at all times be verified can expect a good old fashioned mob-led tarring, feathering and drag behind a horse and buggy to become their fate before US DOJ ever gets its chance to try them! What is soon to be made public is going to make people angry! Very angry! The 911 victims and friends and families of victims of 911 will be the most horrified!

members of Congress are not above criminal law

What a novel concept.
