Rep. John Doolittle, one of the most corrupt members of Congress, may or may not retire
Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) was twice named one of the most corrupt members of Congress in CREW's report, Beyond DeLay. There were numerous reasons Doolittle earned that distinction in both 2006 and 2007, including Doolittle's relationship with Jack Abramoff.
Today, rumors swirled that Doolittle would soon announce that he was retiring from Congress according to the Politico:
Doolittle may drop out as early as this week, according to the California Majority Report, clearing the way for former state Rep. Rico Oller to run for the seat.
Doolittle's office did not respond to a call seeking comment at press time, although House GOP insiders said the report was true.
Although "House GOP insiders" confirmed the rumor, the Politico piece was updated with a denial from Doolittle's office:
UPDATE: Doolittle's office, while not commenting directly on the California Majority Report item, is denying that Doolittle is dropping his reelection bid.
"There is nothing new to report at our end at all," said Ron Rogers, Doolittle's chief of staff. "Mr. Doolittle is moving ahead with his plans for this year, including reelection."

By 11 months from now Doolittle doesn't stand a chance!
Election Day is a long way off and US DOJ has investigated Doolittle for corruption for well over 3 years. Doolittle had his claws in a lot of dirty legislation and budgets.
I believe that by the time Election Day rolls around in nearly 11 months, Doolittle wouldn't have a chance at being re-elected. One must consider that when voters elect someone very dirty to office, it makes their entire district look shady that they would elect such a dirty member of congress to be representative of "district culture." My own company will need California offices not too far into the future. Doolittle's district will not be one of the recipients of an office. I perceive the entire district is comprised of sleazy people since Doolittle was their choice even when enough was made public by the last time Doolittle ran for re-election to tell he is going to jail.
It is a matter of time before residents of Doolittle's district realize he is their liability; he will hurt the district's reputation so badly if permitted to return to Congress, that no one will be willing to move a business to provide new jobs in the district because they perceive the district's employment pool is comprised of sleaze. That this hasn't happened yet told me that the district is full of morons. There is no space with my company for morons so the district is unappealing for us in which to set-up an office. Eventually, the few companies experiencing fast growth like we're about to experience will follow our lead and deny Doolitt's district offices because we perceive the district to be bad news.
