28 Mar 2008 // On March 28, 2008, District Court Judge Reggie Walton issued an order in CREW v. NARA, a lawsuit brought under the Freedom of Information Act(FOIA) for documents related to the National Archives and Records Administration’s role in the government's decision that White House visitor records created by the Secret Service are not agency records subject to the FOIA.
Judge Walton ordered the Archives to submit the vast majority of withheld documents to the Court for an in camera (or private) review and for a handful of documents ordered the Archives to submit a more detailed explanation in support of its withholdings.
The Court concluded that only 10 of the documents were properly withheld. The parties are not required to comply with the order until 30 days after the Court has issued its memorandum opinion explaining the underlying basis for its order.
The order can be found on the right.
