Wynn

2 Apr 2008 // Washington, DC – Today, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) executive director Melanie Sloan released the following statement:

"Given that Rep. Albert Wynn (D-MD) has accepted a position as a lobbyist with the firm of Dickstein Shapiro, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) urges Rep. Wynn to resign from Congress immediately rather than waiting until June as he has planned. Merely stepping down from the Energy and Commerce Committee will not sufficiently insulate Rep. Wynn from potential conflicts of interest. Regardless of any efforts he might make to recuse himself from matters affecting Dickstein clients, from here on out every action Rep. Wynn does or does not take will be scrutinized for the possibility that it benefits a Dickstein client rather than his district. Rep. Wynn’s constituents deserve a member of Congress devoted to their interests and not to those of paying clients. Rep. Wynn should step down now and move on to his new job posthaste."
