I just can't figure why people in these get togethers with Obama don't call him out for his constant references to "the rule of law" and "a fair justice system!" He chooses almost every day to ignore the rule of law, i.e., not prosecuting torturers, not investigating fraudulent bankers, not prosecuting crooked Wall St. traders. etc., etc. Justice, what justice, Obama looks the other way while the elitists that run the banks and the trading houses, as well as those conspiring to commit crimes in the last asministration-get what, why a free ride of course!

It is a little bit easy to attack Obama and always with the same arguments..
Finally a president who makes move things, young and black besides!

Obama did not make the decision, the Justice Department did. The president has no control over the other 2 branches of govt. Lots of misinformation and distortions out here and people need to do more than read a headline, they need to do some research.

DOJ doesn't decide administration policies; they implement them.

Hiding behind the justice department is such a dodge. The Attorney General is picked by the president and he most definitely has influence with that person and department. Remember Ashcroft and Gonzalez, they took marching orders from the president.

And it was wrong to do so. THAT was the "change" we all voted for-- a return to a government that does not march in lock-step but actually has some checks and balances, even if they don't always go the way we want them to.

The investigation into Cheney, Addison, Rove and Libby leading to Libby's conviction for perjury was a criminal investigation where the standard of proof was 'beyond reasonable doubt'.

In Wilsons' civil suit the standard of proof is 'balance of probability'.

Such obvious distinctions should not need to be pointed out to people who are either oblivious to them or deliberately ignoring them.

If we had some respect for freedom, liberty and the US constitution, we wouldn't be debating all of this nonsense, it woyldn't even occur, and if so, the people who break the law would be prosecuted, period. It is just a charade, they are all involved.

Any time people look outside of the establishment lens of the left-right power circus they are called Radicals. And it's not just the left -- look at how the goofball Republicans treated Ron Paul at the Republican debates last year. Sorry, but this is not true. The same thing happened under Clinton. We watched him equivocate and sell out good values.

But it is wrong to equate the Dems and Repubs in this manner. The dems vote 60% on the right side and the repubs vote 90% on the wrong side. That is a vast difference. Unfortunately it is not difference enough. 60 dems in the senate - if 40 f them are for something good, that is still a strong majority of them. But is doesn't win the bill when 20 dems side with the other 40 repubs.

Progressives need to see this distinction. It is the reality on the ground that anyone wanting to make change in Washington needs to understand. The challenge is to take stock in the victories - and Obama already has many of them, push back hard and fair on the failures - he has many of them too, and keep perspective about what Bush actually did in office:

every cabinet post filled with industry insiders, anti-science extremists, market fundamentalists

shock and awe, abu graheb, Guantanamo, torture, renditions, secret prisons, murder, white phosphorus gas

abrogating international treaties, Katrina, 911,

the list is overwhelming

Both administrations are clearly stomping on her God-given and constitutionally clarified right to be a secret agent, no matter what. I'm not saying the rest of you should read the constitution more or that you should read the lower opinions of the courts as to the rationales for ruling down her claim, but I am saying that we are thoroughly justified in directing our anger at the president and his "constitutional" leanings.

Thank you for explaining that this appeal had to do with the courts and how the law works in our country, I too think this story and the blogs are perhaps ignorant with noble intentions or just downright BS disingenous! I am sick of Obama being maligned whenever any legal decision is made that someone doesn't agree with, as if he is entitled as preisdent to manipulate the rule of law and bend it breakikng point the way the last administration did. The man has a huge mess to clean, and the Republican party along with Fox "News" has their pitch-forks out, and boy oh boy do they have a lot of sheep. The debate is concerning what the laws are. Did you really want an emperor?

The story is not that the President is telling the Judicial Branch what to do; only that he is telling his own lawyers at the Department of Justice (part of the Executive Branch) what to do, which he assuredly has the power to do.

Here is the decision. Haven't we had enough of insipid headlines from Fox "News" already?

Sure it's okay to disagree with the decision, I have issues with it. But enough with the BS headlines aready. Stop accepting devisive headlines at face value. We don't need a "roll-over" president, and we don't have one. We have someone in office who has so much garbage to clean up that this only makes the job harder. This headline is of the caliber of Fox "News" - something I'd rather not be associated with - not then, not now.

I agree with you fully. I am tired of seeing these half-truth stories where President Obama's argument is not even fully represented. You're right about the separation of powers, and headlining it "Obama Agrees With Bush" is akin to the inflammatory pseudo-journalism over at Fox News. I don't like when people like you rile people up with half-hashed-out stories.

Obama hasn't been in office that long, and people like you are already calling him a disaster. You've gotten so spoiled, you've already forgotten what the last 8 years were like. I'm not saying his mistakes shouldn't be reported, but the way people are so anxious to jump up and down on him and call him a Bush clone is astounding.
