CREW: Rep. Andrews Violated Campaign Finance Laws

Rep. Rob AndrewsUPDATE: CREW Files FEC Complaint Against Rep. Rob Andrews

Washington, D.C. – In response to the announcement from Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) that he would repay his campaign account for the costs associated with a trip to Scotland for a donor’s wedding, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Executive Director Melanie Sloan released the following statement:

“Much like an apprehended bank robber cannot be absolved of his crimes by returning the stolen money, neither can Rep. Andrews evade responsibility for his actions by returning the campaign funds.  Further, the Scotland trip is not the only instance in which the congressman misappropriated campaign funds for his personal use.  As a result, CREW will be filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission to ensure an investigation into Rep. Andrews’ freewheeling spending with other peoples’ money.”
