CREW Congratulates November’s Scoundrel(s) of the Month: the Super Committee
Washington, D.C. – It was a tight race for the title of worst “turkey” in Washington, but the outrageous failure of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction – better known as the super committee – combined with many committee members using their positions to earn campaign cash for themselves, won the committee the title of CREW’s November Scoundrel of the Month.
“The super committee benefitted only some of the members who raised super amounts of money,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “The rest of us were left out in the cold. Sadly, all the committee did was demonstrate how ineffective and broken Congress is.”
The super committee members join a growing wall of shame that includes Senator David Vitter (R-LA), Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) and media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Next month, voters will be able to vote for the Scoundrel of the Year. Voting will begin on December 21st.
