The scholarship scandal involving Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson is getting more intriguing with revelations in The Dallas Morning News. Rep. Johnson originally pleaded ignorance, but now, that doesn’t appear to be totally true. Some interesting letters that appear to be on her office letterhead with her signature have surfaced, asking the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBC) to send the scholarship funds in question directly to her relatives, rather than to their universities.
Of course, the scholarship money should never have been awarded to her relatives in the first place. While it is not clear if the CBC followed her instructions, it is clear that this story isn’t going away anytime soon. Last night, as part of his “Keeping Them Honest” segment, CNN’s Anderson Cooper tried to get to the bottom of it all, by chatting with Melanie Sloan.
