Washington, D.C. – Despite strong competition and a longer than usual list of nominees, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) was overwhelmingly selected by online voters as CREW’s Scoundrel of the Month.
Thanks to his efforts to gut the STOCK Act, all while taking credit for “cracking down” on insider trading in the halls of Congress, Rep. Cantor now has the unique distinction of being the first two-time winner of this dubious honor.
“After working hard behind the scenes to ensure the House passed a toothless STOCK Act, Rep. Cantor has earned his place as the worst of the worst this month,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “With a consistent record of siding with Wall Street, it is no surprise Rep. Cantor’s scoundrel stock continues to rise.”
Nominations are already being accepted for March’s Scoundrel of the Month, and are not limited to people; entities and agencies are also eligible. Nominations are due by Friday, March 16. Voting will begin the following week.
