Washington, DC—In response to the Department of Justice’s appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller to investigate Russian electoral interference, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Executive Director Noah Bookbinder, a former federal corruption prosecutor, released the following statement:

“We first called for a special counsel eleven weeks ago, and while it has taken the Department of Justice altogether too long to appoint one, we commend them on their appointment of Robert Mueller, the right man for the job. It is our sincere hope that he is able to get to the bottom of this situation—not just the truth about Russia’s interference with the 2016 election and any coordination it may have had with the Trump campaign, but also the truth about the president’s apparent obstruction of the FBI’s Russia investigation.”
