Washington, D.C. –Perennial favorites Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) barely lost out to newcomer Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) in the online race to be named the Most Corrupt Member of Congress, and consequently September’s Scoundrel of the Month. The deadbeat dad received the most votes of any of those included on Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington’s (CREW) annual Most Corrupt Members of Congress list. Every member on the list received at least some support from the online electorate.
“CREW doesn’t rank the Most Corrupt Members of Congress, but failing to pay more than 100k in child support and filing false financial disclosure reports made Rep. Walsh a contender,” said CREW Executive Director Melanie Sloan. “This is not to say the other members weren’t worthy of the top spot. Reps. Buchanan, Rivera and Meeks are all facing serious legal trouble that could soon land them in handcuffs, and Sen. Vitter even tried to bribe the Secretary of the Interior.”
The final tally for the horserace came down like this:
|Win:||Rep. Joe Walsh||(25%)|
|Place:||Sen. David Vitter||(24%)|
|Show:||Rep. Maxine Waters||(11%)|
