Congresswoman Maxine Waters

Washington, D.C. – In response to Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ statement on the ethics case against her, and the PowerPoint presentation made by her grandson in her defense, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) Executive Director Melanie Sloan released the following statement:

“No one questions that Congresswoman Waters has long been a strong voice for minority and small businesses, but that is not the issue. The fact remains, Rep. Waters abused her office for personal financial gain, and she must be held accountable for that. No PowerPoint presentation by her grandson or anyone else can change that reality. It’s a shame that Rep. Waters didn’t defend the honor of her office with the same vigor she is now defending her reputation.”
