First Lady Melania Trump announced that Timothy Harleth was hired for the position of chief usher. According to Bob Scanlan, White House florist from 1998 -2010, the chief usher is “in many ways the official gatekeeper, and their job is to keep the integrity of the house.” Before his White House appointment, Mr. Harleth was the director of rooms at the Trump International Hotel – Washington, D.C., and the White House statement on the hiring mentioned the hotel. He is scheduled to begin work at the White House on July 3.
