The Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform submitted records requests to the heads of 23 federal agencies for information on how much each agency has spent “on products or services provided by businesses owned by or affiliated with the Trump Organization,” to determine how President Trump has used his public position to benefit his private enterprises. A Washington Post article noted that federal agencies do not have to comply with these requests without being subpoenaed – which would require Republican approval – but alleged that Democrats might use an obscure committee rule to force compliance regardless.
