Announcement Date: May 23, 2017

The New York Times reported that China granted President Trump initial approval for a new apparel trademark on May 6th. This brings his total trademarks in China to 116, with 77 registered and 39 now preliminarily approved. While the Times notes that the trademark “can be used in clothing like trousers, underwear and suits,” it is not entirely clear how the Trump Organization plans to use its recently acquired trademarks; China does not require trademark applicants to provide a reason for filing.
