Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington President Donald K. Sherman, a former House Ethics Committee counsel, released the following statement:

“The accusations against Rep. Tony Gonzales are horrifying and the publicly available evidence is damning. His actions are disqualifying from office and threaten the safety of the House and its staff. It’s a good step that the House Committee on Ethics announced that it will investigate his wrongdoing and afford him appropriate process, but the public should not have to wait months for an investigation to take place to preserve the sanctity and safety of the House of Representatives. Rep. Gonzales should resign immediately.”
