CREW statement on White House PRA compliance
Following a judge’s ruling in Freedom of the Press Foundation et al. v Trump et al. that the White House must comply with the Presidential Records Act, the White House last week issued a notice and guidance to all staff of the Executive Office of the President informing them that they must comply with the PRA. In response, CREW Senior Litigation Counsel Jonathan Maier issued the following statement:
“The White House’s notice to staff that they are required to comply with the Presidential Records Act and guidance on compliance is a step in the right direction, although there remains significant room for improvement. We look forward to continuing to fight in court to permanently end the Trump administration’s efforts to declare the PRA unconstitutional and discard it. In the meantime, this notice is crucial to protecting the Freedom of the Press Foundation’s, CREW’s and the public’s interest in preserving presidential records.”
