CREW has identified for the first time that Freedom 250 (the Trump-controlled entity putting on events for American’s 250th anniversary) seemingly “presented” an event that President Trump profited from through his properties. The proceeds from the event at Mar-a-Lago appear to have benefitted a nonprofit which previously only raised tens of thousands of dollars and whose founder is a friend of Donald Trump Jr

In April, a logo for “Freedom 250” appeared under the heading “presented by” on the website for the We The People Gala at Mar-a-Lago, billed as an “unforgettable evening celebrating 250 years of the United States of America and honoring the heroes who defend her.” Exactly what that means about Freedom 250’s involvement in the event is unclear. Guests sipped on drinks provided by beverage sponsor Trump Vodka (with Trump-branded bottles featured prominently as centerpieces). Secret Service Director Sean Curran attended as a “special guest” and an “honored guest speakers” list included Trump-allied Representatives Brian Mast and Cory Mills.

The event website says it was held for the benefit of “patriotic nonprofit” We Fund The Blue—whose website states that their mission is to support “America’s law enforcement, military, and first responders through direct action and service-based missions.” According to tax returns, WFTB has raised a combined total of roughly $47,000 in the three years between when it was formed in 2021 and its last available tax filing, which covers 2024. The X profile linked at the bottom of the organization’s homepage leads to the personal account of founder John Rourke, who is a friend of Don Jr. The event was potentially a big payday for both Trump and the nonprofit—tickets for the sold-out event ranged from $1,500 to $250,000.

At least one speaker at the event has run into issues with the law. Rep. Mills spoke at the event, and less than a week later, he faced calls within his own party that he be expelled based on allegations of financial and sexual misconduct, which he denies, including an incident that reportedly almost resulted in his arrest

President Trump himself, the owner of the host venue for the event, is a convicted felon, and has pardoned or granted clemency to at least 20 corrupt politicians and scores of the January 6 insurrectionists, including those who violently assaulted law enforcement, many of whom have gone on to commit new crimes
