CREW requested records from the Department of Justice on the costs that US Attorney John Durham has incurred throughout his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

Durham’s investigation into the origins of the government’s investigation into interference in the 2016 election has already faced multiple legal actions from CREW. Attorney General William Barr reportedly assigned Durham to conduct an investigation even though there was already a separate ongoing DOJ investigation. Contrary to Barr’s accusations of DOJ anti-Trump bias, the DOJ report concluded that the decision to open this inquiry was not based on any political bias. Barr’s involvement in Durham’s investigation has caused serious concern around his lack of impartiality and led CREW to call first for his recusal from the investigation and then his resignation from his post.

The requested records on the budget, expenses, salaries, and costs of this investigation would illuminate just how much taxpayer money Durham and Barr are spending on an inquiry that did not need to be launched in the first place.
