The Office of Special Counsel concluded that Ambassador Haley had indeed violated the Hatch Act, and has counseled her on how to avoid future violations, noting that if she commits a similar violation in the future it will be considered a willful and knowing violation of the law, which could lead to disciplinary action.

CREW sent a letter to the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) requesting an investigation into whether Nikki Haley, Ambassador to the United Nations, violated the Hatch Act when she used her twitter account, which identifies Haley as the “United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” to retweet the first of a chain of tweets from President Trump in support of the election of Ralph Norman, at the time a candidate running in a special Congressional election in South Carolina.
