Following the signing of the Federal Prison Oversight Act, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington President Noah Bookbinder released the following statement:

“For  too long, federal prisons have lacked sufficient oversight, allowing corruption and widespread physical and sexual abuse to go unaddressed.  This crucial legislation opens the door for urgently needed accountability, and its new, independent oversight tools will ensure that these serious issues begin to be addressed.  We commend this bipartisan effort, spearheaded by Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Mike Braun (R-IN) and Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Reps. Lucy McBath (D-GA) and Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), and we urge the Department of Justice to act swiftly to implement this important legislation.”

CREW has previously written a letter and submitted congressional testimony in support of the bill.
