Following President Trump’s firing of the remaining members of the bipartisan Election Assistance Commission (EAC), CREW President Donald K. Sherman released the following statement:

“This is the latest disturbing step in Donald Trump’s crusade to make it harder to vote and consolidate control of elections. Trump’s unconstitutional elections executive order directed the EAC to put a proof of citizenship requirement on the federal voter registration form. With the order shut down in the courts, Trump cast about for other options, and the Supreme Court gave him one in the Slaughter decision. Now Trump can fire independent commissioners at will and replace them with cronies who will do his bidding—no matter the harm to our democracy. We will not look away from this creeping authoritarianism.”
