Following Donald Trump’s indictment in Georgia, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington President Noah Bookbinder, a former federal corruption prosecutor, released the following statement:

“On January 4, 2021, two days before the insurrection, CREW filed a criminal complaint in Georgia against Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn a fair and free election in the state. He is finally being held accountable for his alleged crimes. The charges in Georgia are not only some of the most serious that he faces, but some of the most important: as they are state crimes, no future president can interfere to attempt to make them disappear. It cannot be a happy day to see a former president facing a RICO indictment, but for the good of our country, it is a positive one.”
