Washington- Following the passing of Rep. John Lewis, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) released the following statement:

“Today we join all Americans in mourning the passing of Rep. John Lewis, a shining beacon for equality and justice. His courage, commitment and decency in pursuit of equal justice for all serves as a tremendous lesson of doing the most good with the time we have on this earth.

Rep. Lewis was truly an inspiration and a model of courage and impact, and a fierce kindness, which is so rare. To his last day, he fought for the better America he believed he could help bring about. More than an inspiration, he helped pave the path that so many of us walk together towards a better future. There is no better tribute to his legacy than the countless Americans getting in ‘good trouble’ and fighting for that better America until, as he said at the March on Washington nearly 60 years ago, the revolution of 1776 is complete.”
