CREW requests congressional and agency communication on 22nd Amendment
Since November 2024, President Trump has publicly toyed with the idea that presidential term limits may be negotiable. Under the 22nd Amendment, it is unconstitutional for Trump to be elected to another term.
CREW has requested agency records from the Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG), the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) and members of Congress or congressional committees on all correspondence, opinion or analyses regarding Section 1 of the 22nd Amendment.
Despite having already been elected president twice, Trump has repeatedly suggested that he would attempt to extend his time in office beyond his current term. It is in the best interest of the public to establish an understanding from ODAG and OLA whether the president can disregard the 22nd Amendment’s clear prohibitions.
