On September 5, 2025, President Trump announced he will be hosting the 2026 G20 summit at his Trump National Doral property. He told reporters at a press conference at the White House that, “Everybody wants it there, because it’s right next to the airport, it’s the best location.” He said, “They actually requested that it be there because the location is the best and we will not make any money on it. You know, we’re doing a deal where it’s not going to be money.”

White House officials earlier this summer said that the “idea has been discussed for weeks,” and an aide was seen carrying a “G20 Miami 2026” sign into the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in July.

Given this announcement, and the State Department’s solicitation of proposals from U.S. cities to host the G20 earlier this year, CREW filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests with the State Department and Secret Service relating to Doral’s proposal, vetting and selection for the summit.

This is not the first time President Trump has made plans to use his public office to host international summits with world leaders at his own properties. In 2019, during his first term, Trump announced plans to hold the 2020 G7 summit at Doral, bypassing the formal selection process and prompting widespread backlash from the public. Records showed that Doral was not among the original sites that submitted bids or was formally vetted.

Considering President Trump’s repeated use of his presidency to promote his business interests and his history of trying to steer similar diplomatic summits to his Miami property, the public has significant interest in learning how Trump National Doral was selected to host the 2026 G20 Summit.
