CREW requests Department of Labor records on political appointee
- Copies of all calendars and/or other records reflecting meetings Senior White House Counsel Wayne Palmer had from January 20, 2017, to the present;
- Documents reflecting the mission, responsibilities, duties of the Senior White House Counsel position currently held by Mr. Palmer; and
- All communications between Mr. Palmer and White House Deputy Chief Staff Rick Dearborn and/or his top aide John Mashburn, from January 20, 2017, to the present.
The requested records would shed light on the role these officials are playing and the extent to which agency decisions are being dictated by the White House through a process divorced or separate from agency heads. Further, at a time when the president is proposing massive cuts to federal agencies and sharply decreasing the federal workforce, there is great public interest in the extent to which the president has bloated federal agencies with political aides dedicated to serving the separate political interests of the White House.
