CREW sends Congress letter on GSA’s role in presidential transition

Despite media outlets projecting former Vice President Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election and now President-elect, GSA Administrator Emily Murphy, a Trump political appointee, has not ascertained a winner. The GSA plays a critical role in the presidential transition process under the Presidential Transition Act; GSA is required to provide the President-elect’s transition team with “a fully equipped headquarters,” as well as a variety of services and funding.

CREW sent a letter to the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations, Gerald Connolly requesting that he hold public hearings on GSA’s role in the presidential transition.

As the subcommittee also knows well, GSA Administrator Murphy has been less than forthcoming about GSA’s role in issues of personal importance to President Trump, from his lease of the Old Post Office building, to his intervention in the planning of a new FBI headquarters.

The American public deserves to know whether the Trump administration is following the law in its management of the 2020/2021 presidential transition. Public hearings are necessary to fully examine GSA’s process and Murphy’s decision-making.
