Under the Freedom of Information Act, CREW requests all opinions issued by the Office of Legal Counsel (“OLC”) concerning: (1) the order of succession at DOJ, and (2) DOJ’s special counsel regulations, 28 C.F.R. §600

The ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller into the activities of President Trump and his campaign, who was appointed after President Trump fired James Comey as FBI director, have raised concerns that President Trump will attempt to interfere with or terminate the investigation.  As a result, attention has focused on the line of succession at DOJ, and how that would play out, as well as the procedures governing the special prosecutor.  The requested OLC opinions will shed light on these issues at a time when the nation needs to know our leaders will follow the rule of law.
